Screen Settings - Explanation

Close this window to return to the Website

This site is best view at the highest screen setting for your monitor. The trade off is the higher the setting the smaller the print which is not a problem for 17" or 19" monitors, but you may need sharp eyesight for smaller monitors.

To Change your monitor settings you will need to go to a blank area of your desktop (where you have all those Icons when you first start windows in your computer), you may have to Shrink the size of your open browser (this screen) by hitting the button next to the "x" box in the upper right hand corner of this window.

In a blank area of your desktop, right click with your mouse or trackball. From the drop down menu, choose properties, a window will open called "Display Properties". Choose "Settings". If possible, with your monitor, move the "slide bar" in the area called "Screen Area", to the right, labeled "More". Choices will be 800 x 600 to 1280 x 1024 or with larger monitors even higher. Note that in the area labeled "Colors" you should have at least "256" with "High Color" or "True Color" being better settings, if possible with your monitor. Next choose "Apply", hopfully you will see a message saying that "Windows will now resize your screen", without windows telling you that you must restart your computer. If it tells you that you must restart your computer, then the choice is up to you. Different computers have different capabilities or have been set up differently.

1280 x 1024 will be ok for 17" to 19" monitors on 99% of this website (In a couple of screens, I recommend 800 x 600 for readability). If you have a smaller monitor you may have to use 800 x 600 or 1024 x 600. The smaller numbers means that you will have a right-left scroll bar in addition to an up-down scroll bar and you will be doing more up-down scrolling. The larger the numbers, the more will fit on your screen without scrolling.

Even at 800 x 600, all of the content should fit within your screen, with you only needing to scroll to get to your button choices on the left to go to other pages within the site.

Now you know more than you ever wanted to know about what your monitor can (or can't) do, but it does give you some insight into its flexibility or depending on your monitor its lack of flexibility. Keep in mind that if you watch the sales, 17" monitors now go for about $179 or even less.
